Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 1st XI v Berkhamsted II on Sat 07 May 2005 at 13.30 meet at 11.30
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Won 9 Wickets
The first thing to be said about the day is that the skipper forgot the smut! It was his responsibility and he came to the conclusion that the young girl in the newsagents would recognise him (I may have added that last bit)
Anyway, for next week, the skipper has passed the duty onto the vice skipper - Jut - no repeats and several of the side have suggested dwarf stuff!
The weather reports suggested scattered showers and the game was interupted early doors for the loss of 4 overs. The visitors called the toss and lost the toss. We fielded.
Gilewicz was called upon to open the bowling with his agressive long hops.
Man of the match, Richard Bartsch, opened from the score box end. Richard dazzled the opposition with pace, movement off the seem and swing - all in the same ball. Supported by the fileders the openers struck early and Richard finished with 6 wickets. His first '5 for' for the club.
Tom Thoday made debut as wicket keeper and performed very well, Gilewicz added 2 wickets to the total before being replaced by Jon Pettit who teased the opposition with spin and finished with a wicket off his 4 overs for only 3 runs.
Catches from Jon Pettit, Julian Pawle (bad shoulder, leg & back) Steve Page, Sean McChleary, Julain Pawle and Tom Thoday helped the bowlers and Jon Pettit helped further with a good run out.
C Vaughan and Tom Thoday opened our innings chasing only 53. Vaughan got lumbered with a slow low one in the first over and Steve Walker entered the arena. Easy would be a bit unfair, but this onlooker walked off to read the paper confident the job was done. A partnership of over 50 in an hour or so later and the game was won.
An introduction of fines should be introduced and this reporter suggests the following;
£1 to Jon Schlaepfer for not bringing smut when duty called.
£1 to Tom Thoday for not wearing a jumper when batting (bloody freezing!)
£1 to Richard Bartsch for getting more wickets in an innings then his entire time at the club
£1 to Julian Pawle for not being on a hospital bed when clealry the body has broken
£1 to Matt Gilewicz for not noticing that his son was playing football on the field of play
