Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 1st XI v Southgate Compton on Sat 14 May 2005 at 13.30 meet at 11.30
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Lost
Vice captain, Jut Gray, won the toss and elected to field. Dropped catches by the (OH) helped Southgate Compton to their total of 216. There were 2 catches taken, Wayne Langton taking a missile directly at him at Midwicket and Julian Pawle's catch of the season contender at cow. One of the finest catches seen by the home team players!
Although the opening batsmen got us off to a great start, the visiting bowlers continued their good line and length which made runs difficult to come by. Julian Pawle's 38 in his debut knock looked all class, Ware (OH) CC never batted to their potential and seem to settle for the draw early on in the innings. Jon Pettit, Matt Wright, Richard Bartsch and Matt Gilewicz should all have been able to play the bowling and reach the end but failed, leaving Justin Gray, Chris Vaughan and young Natt Hopkins to try and bat out for the draw. With only an over and a few balls to go the opposition took the last wicket for the win.
Conclusion, we didn't relax and play to our ability, and the verdict must read like a school report - 'Can do better'
