Welwyn Garden City III v Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 03 Jun 2006 at 13.30 meet at 11.30
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Won 9 Wickets
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Ware OHCC Skipper John S won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Welwyn into Bat. William & Troy started off proceedings and bowled well without luck. Matt G was brought on at first change and created chances almost immediately, however the catches offered by the Welwyn batsmen were not taken, and so it was John P who made inroads into the Welwyn Batting line up bowling superbly (6-34 - personal best for the club) with good variation and flight and claimed 4 LBW's. Richard was brought into the attack for 3 overs and bowled with pace & purpose and was perhaps unlucky not to take a wicket. The Skipper brought himself on and claimed (2-1) to help mop up the tail in tandem with John P.
Welwyn were bowled out for 157, which was a below par total on a 220 wicket.
In reply, Ware got off to a flyer, with Wayne and Tom playing well, before Wayne was cleaned bowled by the opening bowler for 14. William (77 Not Out) then stamped his authority on the Welwyn bowlers hitting boundaries at will, and in collaboration with Tom (47 Not Out - personal best for the club, and was unlucky not to register his first 50 for the club!!) knocked the runs off after only 29.3 Overs. The unbroken partnership yielded 138 runs and was a joy to watch.
With the win, Ware moves up to 6th on the Division 7 league table, from basically two completed games.
If the weather stays like this, the team will build on this comprehensive win and all bodes well for a successful season.
