Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Sunday XI v Royal Oak (Ware) on Sun 06 Aug 2006 at 1400
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Lost
Another hot and muggy day was ahead of us in the field! With the visitors electing to bat first, young Ben Hart and the colonel got things off to a good start. Ben taking a wicket at the end of his first over put us right on track!
The bowling change brought young Simon Morgan and the Dazzler into the Attack; While Simon claimed two strong top order wickets with in swinging deliveries. Paddy made his way to the crease and rightly so, he waded his way to a well-earned 95 not out. I cant help but feel him and Chris had an agreement that he should score no less than 20 odd runs from his over.
The drinks break bought about another change in the bowling, Jamie Don had to revive himself after missing two chances in the field and he rightly did so claiming a wicket within 3 balls. This saw Ware into the tale of the Royal Oak team and Mat Gilewicz to the crease. Before he had taken his guard the colonel started the heckling from the boundary. This proved fruitful as Matt pulled out the mystery defensive shot and dollied the ball straight back to Jamie Don who caught him in a rather athletic fashion. Royal Oak nudged up to a respectable 188 of 40 overs.
The Run chase started slowly but steadily with the colonel and Riz putting down the foundations of a solid first partnership. Freddie Hart the elder of the two Hart boys stepped up to the plate to face the fiercest of the Royal oak bowling attack. First Ball from Matt G was despatched for 4 Runs (No chance of a golden duck there).
Tom and Darren put on a quick partnership of 20 runs before Darren decided it was time for a change at the crease and quickly disposed of his own captain in search of his own 50.
In the end it came down to the last two of the lower order to hunt down the victory. Simon and Julian put in some fine shots not looking to give up hope. Some of Simon’s shots made it of the square one even made it two feet from the boundary.
The last wicket fell to fairly easy catch for the fielding side, in the end a great game of cricket by all. Goods Sportsmanship all round!
