Abbots Langley v Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 14 Jul 2007 at 1330
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Won by 7 wickests

Ware won the toss and elected bowl on a placid looking pitch at Abbots Langley. William Jones and Troy Forrest both struck early with a wicket apiece, before Bishop and Cornes began building a solid if slow partnership. Youngster Cornes batted with impressive maturity and looked very solid until being well caught by Justin Gray for 32 off a well flighted Darren Patel delivery after the pair had added 63. Patel continued to trouble the batsmen with every over, and with Richard Bartsch bowling with pace and control at the other end, wickets began to fall regularly. Once Bartsch enticed Bishop into lifting a catch to Matt Gilewicz at cover, further resistance was limited to a few wild swings. Bartsch, Patel and Forrest all produced their best spells of the season, dismissing Abbots Langley for 152 in the 50th over on a very good batting track. Patel with 4 for 34, Bartsch with 3 for 42, Jones with 2 for 33 and Forrest with 1 for 38, were well backed up by some excellent catching and ground fielding.

The experiment with Simon Green opening the batting didn't come off as he was caught at slip in the second over. William Jones joined Wayne Langton, and both continued their fine form from last week with another big partnership. Both were positive in defence and punished anything loose as the Abbots Langley bowlers failed to extract any life from the wicket. The pair had added 88 in 20 overs when Jones top edged a sweep to provide short fine leg with the easiest of catches with his score on 58. John Schlaepfer looked comfortable, batting positively and it was a surprise when edged one to the wicket keeper for 7. John Pettit was promoted up the order from his usual number 11 slot and showed the depth of batting in the side when, after a nervous start, he began dispatching balls to all parts of the ground as Ware accelerated towards victory. Victory was achieved in the 30th over as Ware reached 153 for 3. Pettit finished with a fine 25 not out, but the day belonged to Langton as he finally recaptured the form of last season. He defended, drove and cut with aplomb and finished unbeaten on 58 to earn the man of the match accolade.

The win pushed Ware up to third place in division six and they will visit Radlet on Saturday looking to consolidate their place in the promotion places.
