Potters Bar III v Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 25 Aug 2007 at 1300
Match was Drawn

Ware lost the toss and were asked to bat on a dampish pitch at Potters Bar. The Potters Bar opening bowlers maintained a tight line and picked up the wickets of Wayne Langton and Tom Thoday early. William Jones and John Schlaepfer consolidated, until the Schlaepfer offered no stroke and was bowled by a ball that seamed back sharply. When Matt Gilewicz came and went quickly, ware were precariously placed at 80 for 4. James Dickinson batted solidly to support Jones as he began to dominate the bowling. The pair carried the score beyond the 150 mark before Dickinson was out to a fine catch on the boundary as Ware looked to reach the 200 mark to declare. Darren Patel then supported Jones as he reached his century, before falling caught and bowled for 120. Ware finally reached the 200 mark in their final over after good work from Matt Berry and Jamie Don – finishing on 205 for 8 from 53 overs.

Potters Bar began very brightly and looked like they might challenge the Ware total. However, three wickets from Daren Patel and two from James Dickinson left them reeling at 85 for 5. With 20 over still to bat, Potters Bar opted to play out for a draw, so it was a just question of whether Ware could take the five further wickets required for victory. Ben Dixon again bowled well and was rewarded with an LBW. Jones chipped away at the lower order to take three wickets. This left the last two Potters Bar batsmen to negotiation the final 13 balls. Despite the best efforts of Dickinson, Jones and the Ware fielders, Potters Bar held out for a draw with their score on 140 for 9 from 47 overs.

The draw saw Ware fall further back in the race for promotion, and they will need to win their final two games and have other results go their way if they are to reach the fourth promotion spot.
