Watton at Stone II v Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 09 Jun 2007 at 13.30 meet 12.00
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Lost by 48 runs
The dreaded post tour game with the usual selection nightmare.
They won the toss and decided to have a bat.
Risso lasted four overs before tweaking his hamstring. The Colonel managed to drop two chances during this short spell but made up for it by dropping one off of ASBO at the other end too. Fred Hart showed his captain what to do, removing their dangerous looking lefty with calm catch at extra cover. Simon "Guten" Morgan got a rare oppotunity to show what he can do with the ball and proceeded to take 7 wickets. This was a fantastic spell of controlled swing bowling and fully deserved his haul. Alex Cox made a promising debut with the ball, showing some good pace. They set us a target of 197 to win which looked a decent total even at Watton's high scoring ground.
Our innings started badly with three early wickets before Freddy Hart and big Tom put on 54 together Both played with confidence waiting for the right ball to hit and hit hard. Freddy moved on to reach 54, his maiden 50 for the club and very well deserved. This proved to be the only real highlight in our innninngs which fizzled out to 138 off 33 overs.
Again a tough one for MOM but Fred Hart got it. Bad luck on Guten.
Many Thanks to Tim and Alex for helping out at the last minute.
