Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club 2nd XI v Tewin II on Sat 11 Aug 2007 at 13.00 meet at 12.00
Match was Drawn
The twos showed seven changes from the team that won last week as they entertained Tewin at Widford. With a slim chance of promotion The Colonel had nothing to gain in going for points and so stuck them in when he won the toss.
Risso opened the attack with Julie. A decent wicket and a fast outfield meant that keeping the run rate down was always going to be difficult. A dropped catch off their opener was to prove costly. Andy took a catch off Risso to get the other opener after 43. They then started to pile on the runs, another 50 coming before Simon took a decent catch off Julie in the deep to dismiss their number 3. Alex Cox, Tim Andrews and Nathan Adam all bowled well but anything loose was punished by the experienced batsman. The Col. got one near the end, Jon Little pouching one safely at mid-on and Risso back on for the finish picked up the final wicket in the last over. Their opener ended on 133 not out.
The Col. and Andy V put on 82 for the first wicket. Both looked comfortable going along at a steady 4 an over until Andy got out in bizarre circumstances. Missing a slow delivery going down leg his follow through played the ball on to the stumps. A very unlucky finish to his league career with the club. A bit of a collapse then followed and we quickly found ourselves on 90 odd for 4. Julian and The Col. then put on fifty until The Col. fell playing a tired looking forward defensive for 71. Jules carried on the good work finishing on 24 and the rest of the batting order put up some defense with both Andrews at the crease at the end.
A disappointing end to our promotion hopes but the first batting points of the season were won and it was good experience for our younger players.
