Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Ware (OH) CC XI v Chairman's XI on Sun 22 Jul 2007 at 2pm Kick Off Meet @ 12 for drinks
Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club Lost Chairman's XI Won
On a glorious day reminisant of previous years (not this one) the annual Chairmans game got off to a great start with most of the bitter being sold before the game. Many faces young and old came along to support the day and witnessed a good old fashioned freindly.
The chairmans won the toss and decided to bat on a drying wicket with the bar open. Passman was first to go falling to Troy Forrest much to the bowlers delight. Williams sacrificed his wicket to the same bowler.
Goodacre strode to the wicket and went about smashing the ball until the momentous decision to bring on Julie. With all his guile and wisdom the wicket was sure to come and it did so with Mr Don upholding a confident appeal for LBW from the crowd. The slow deleivery of the finger prolonged Goodacres stay at the crease.
Cavener C was putting away the bad ball for the chairmans and was supported well from a brisk Ian Martin 30odd. With Cavener amasing 77 the charimans team managed to to post 168.
In reply Ware got off well with a stategic run out from Risby accounting for Guten. Gilewicz and Risby put on runs quickly until both were accounted for in quick succession. Forrest went to Goodacre for a goldie and the chairmans started to take regular wickets. 2 of these wickets came from the unlikely source of Jeffrey. The Ware team were unable to make up the run rate which the wickets kept taking away and Schlaepfer managed to keep Petit off the strike long enough for the run rate to get to 30 off the last 2. This proved to be too much although Little very nearly hit a 4.
A very important aside was the cake competition. This was won by Wendy with the icing of the club badge. In 2nd, and with a superior tasting cake (said the judges) was the chairmans. All the kids came joint in their competition and received chocolate. The teas were massive and there are rumours that people are still feeding on the left overs.
Altogether it was a very good day with good food, good drink, good company and cricket (I could not call that good).
